LINCOLN — Green Energy Committee explores alternatives to renewable energy credits. The committee heard from Paul Gromer of Peregrine Group that federal offshore wind delays have made Class 1 renewable energy certificate purchases less effective at driving new clean energy investment. Members reached preliminary consensus to explore alternatives such as local solar development or out-of-region projects like Cambridge's North Dakota investment, though uncertainty remains about state legal requirements for participant benefits.
The approximately $320,000 annual voluntary REC spending may be redirected. Meanwhile, the Library HVAC project has been postponed to a fall special Town Meeting due to uncertainty about federal Investment Tax Credit funding amounts.
