Lincoln School Committee authorizes contingency kindergarten sections at both campuses
LINCOLN — August 13, 2012 — Lincoln School Committee pre-authorizes kindergarten expansion at both campuses ahead of opening day. Members voted unanimously Aug. 13 to open a fifth kindergarten section at Hanscom Primary School and to transfer $100,505 from the Hanscom reserve fund to cover salaries, materials and facilities work. Superintendent Becky McFaul said projected enrollment of 85 would push the K-3 average to 18.27, breaching the Hanscom contract's cap of 18; a fifth section brings the average to 17.13. The committee separately authorized a fourth Lincoln-campus section if enrollment reaches 61 students, with two seats reserved for METCO. Chair Jennifer Glass also reported that the McGuire Group estimated repair-only costs at $30 million to $35 million, excluding cafeteria replacement, against the School Building Committee's preferred $49 million project that MSBA will reimburse at 44.8 percent, up to $21 million.
