Lincoln Select Board accepts radio tower compliance report, plans successor committee

LINCOLN — February 28, 2011 — Lincoln closes two-year radio tower project with compliance achieved but lighting risk unresolved. Public Safety Radio Tower Committee Chairman John Legates told the Board of Selectmen Monday that fire and police communications are now "better than what they have in other towns" and that FAA, FCC and ZBA registrations are correct, with the ZBA renewing the permit for five years at tree-canopy height. If the surrounding trees are lost, however, Lincoln must illuminate a warning light or remove the tower. The committee estimated a monopole replacement at roughly $25,000 and the original FEMA tower grant at $50,000-$60,000. The board endorsed sending a contingency-planning letter to regional antenna tenants including the District 14 fire region and a medevac service. The board also appointed Phyllis Mutchler to the Disabilities Commission and received a $6.8 million town offices renovation update.
