Lincoln Selectmen award $360,530 paving contract to Mass. Broken Stone

LINCOLN — April 23, 2012 — Lincoln Selectmen award $360,530 paving contract and break ground on town offices the same day. The board on April 23 unanimously awarded this year's in-place bituminous paving contract to Mass. Broken Stone Co. of Berlin — the low of nine bids, against an in-house estimate of roughly $410,000 — covering sections of Route 117, all of Weston Road between the five corners and Silver Hill, and Beaver Pond and Upland Field roads. DPW Superintendent Chris Bibbo said the firm had "done good work for us in the past." About $30,000 comes from residual Phase 2 bond proceeds and roughly $330,000 from Chapter 90, leaving about $400,000 in the state-aid reserve. Town Administrator Tim Higgins reported a consultant analysis concluded Lincoln would neither save money nor improve service by joining a proposed eight-town regional dispatch center, noting the town spent roughly $250,000 five years ago to upgrade its existing facility. The board also appointed Planning Board member Bob Domnitz as Lincoln's HATS representative and approved an 8:30-to-10:30 a.m. Lincoln Road closure for the June 23 kids' triathlon.
