Lincoln Select Board promotes Brian Young to permanent fire chief

LINCOLN — August 24, 2020 — Lincoln promotes Brian Young to fire chief and locks in an 80-20 in-person school reopening for Sept. 16. The Select Board voted 3-0 on Aug. 24 to make Young's appointment permanent after 15 months as acting chief, with Town Administrator Tim Higgins citing his work stabilizing a department budget crisis, completing capital planning, and serving as a public health point person during COVID. Superintendent Becky McFall and School Committee Chair Tara Mitchell told the board roughly 80 percent of families opted in-person and 20 percent remote, with cohorts of 9 to 15 students, mandatory masks preschool through grade eight, six-foot distancing, and HVAC filters upgraded to MERV-13. A third Doherty's bus was contracted for Boston METCO students to maintain one-student-per-seat spacing. Public health nurse Trish McGeehan said Lincoln stands at 46 confirmed cases and will return to the state's unshaded risk tier on Wednesday after a brief stint in yellow.
