Lincoln Selectmen appoint Stephen Carter as new fire chief

LINCOLN — December 5, 2011 — Lincoln names Littleton's Stephen Carter as next fire chief, effective Jan. 2. The Board of Selectmen voted 3-0 Monday on the recommendation of a search committee led by Selectman Noah Eckhaus that reviewed roughly seven applicants and brought three finalists in for half-day department-head interviews. Police Chief Kevin Mooney, who served on the panel with Personnel Board member Beth Reese, a Council on Aging representative, Town Administrator Tim Higgins and Concord Fire Chief Mark Cotreau, called the choice "very unanimous." Carter, in his seventh year leading Littleton's department and a former Emerson Hospital paramedic program director, told the board Lincoln has "such great building blocks." The board also appointed Jim Hogan as veteran services officer and previewed FY13 cash capital recommendations totaling more than $400,000, including $100,000 for a used DPW dump truck and $60,000 net to decommission underground fuel tanks under a state DEP order.
