School Committee approves Student Opportunity Act plan and updated policies

LINCOLN -- May 16, 2024, Lincoln School Committee approves SOA plan and hears $500,000-plus savings claim on in-district therapeutic programs. Administrator of Student Services Lisa Burrard told the committee Thursday that the Bridge program at Hanscom (six seventh-graders), Foundations at Hanscom (five K-1/K-2 students) and Foundations at Lincoln (six students) likely kept most of those 17 students out of CASE Collaborative placements averaging $70,000 per year. Assistant Superintendent Torrance Lewis rebranded the district's DEI work as an "aid guide" and won approval of Lincoln's three-year Student Opportunity Act plan, which prioritizes multi-tiered supports and expanded on-demand translation services. Superintendent Perry told members his long-term strategic plan, initially aimed at June, will now arrive in September. The committee also voted to participate in Lincoln Pride on May 29 and adopted second-reading updates to policy sections E and F.
