Lincoln School Committee hears MCAS report showing 15-point science gain

LINCOLN — November 3, 2022 — Lincoln schools post 15-point science MCAS jump, weather COVID with steady scores. Assistant Superintendent Jess Roy told the School Committee on Nov. 3 that 58 percent of grades 3-8 students met or exceeded expectations in ELA, 52 percent in math and 68 percent in science, with the Lincoln campus tying Concord and Lexington for highest growth among comparison districts and eighth-grade math reaching the 99th percentile statewide. Roy called the science gain "pretty rare," crediting uninterrupted in-person instruction and the new FOSS K-5 curriculum. Gaps narrowed 10 points in ELA for Black students but widened 13 points in math for Latinx students. METCO representative Kim Mack pressed on test bias, saying the district must "create an environment where all our students feel as though they can" raise concerns. The committee also approved an $831,100.30 payroll warrant.
