Lincoln Public Schools Superintendent Parry Graham sent families a message on Oct. 16 explaining how the district will decide and announce snow days, along with the district's annual notice about its asbestos management plan.

Graham said that whether to cancel, delay or release school early because of weather is primarily a safety decision based on whether students can get to and from school safely. He said he will consult with the district's facilities department, which coordinates with town and Base officials, review weather forecasts, check with the district's METCO transportation contact, and communicate with superintendents from neighboring communities.

If school is canceled, Graham said he will try to announce the decision the evening before when possible. When a final call cannot be made until the morning, his goal is to send notice by 5 a.m. Any announcement will go out by phone message, email and text message, and will also be posted on local TV stations. Graham said a decision will apply district-wide to both the Hanscom and Lincoln Schools, and that a decision about schools is separate from any decision by Base leadership to close Base offices, meaning one could remain open while the other closes. He noted that if families do not hear from him, school is operating on its regular schedule.

Graham also pointed families to this year's asbestos management plan notification, which the district provides annually.
