Lincoln's Select Board announced Oct. 21 that the State of the Town event and Special Town Meeting will take place Saturday, Oct. 24, with doors opening at 8 a.m. for voter check-in.

The State of the Town portion begins at 9 a.m. with 45 minutes of updates on the Open Space Planning Process, a communications update, the Community Center Building Committee's Bemis Hall Reuse Plan, the Finance Committee, the Lincoln and Lincoln-Sudbury School Committees, the Water Main Replacement Project and the town's pavement improvement plans.

At 9:45 a.m., the town will hold an informational session on the Library HVAC System Replacement Project. At 10:30 a.m., new moderator Andy Payne will convene the Special Town Meeting to discuss and vote on that project. The warrant presents two options: a ground source heat pump system or a high-efficiency gas system.

The town said a document answering frequently asked questions, along with technical background materials, is posted on the Town Meeting webpage.

Electronic voting "clickers" will again be used to speed up any hand counts. Each voter receives one clicker at check-in and must remain in the room to vote; clickers must be turned in to a receptacle when leaving the building, and residents who plan to return can get a "clicker card" from an attendant.

Free snacks will be served, though coffee will not be available this year. Reserved parking is available near the entrance for handicap and mobility-impaired residents, with public safety staff on hand to direct traffic. Assisted listening devices can be obtained from AV personnel at the console in the middle of the auditorium. The meeting will also be shown in the gym for viewing only, though residents must be in the auditorium to speak or vote.

Those unable to attend can watch the meeting on Comcast Channel 8, Verizon Channel 33 or the town website.
