Lincoln Select Board holds third anti-racism roundtable with civic, faith and cultural groups

LINCOLN — October 21, 2020 — Lincoln Select Board convenes 12 organizations for third anti-racism roundtable. Member Jennifer Glass moderated the two-hour Oct. 21 virtual panel, joined by board members James Craig and Jonathan Dwyer and Town Administrator Tim Higgins. Danny and Sam Honig presented a citizens petition aimed at the March Town Meeting to create a centralized town DEI body, citing Lincoln's 87 percent white demographic. WIDE co-chair Moha Desai announced a Codman Trust grant to fund a website and a Community Anti-Racist Advocate Training program. Ken Hurd of First Parish called Lincoln's "two-acre zoning … a form of structural racism." The Food Project's Jen James urged the town to budget for the work: "If this work is important to you, you need to spend the money." Higgins said he researched DEI structures in Bedford, Arlington and Lexington and warned that without a formal body, "momentum fades over time."
