Planning Board authorizes joint letter pushing MassDOT for Route 2A shoulders, crosswalks and beacons

LINCOLN — June 22, 2021 — Lincoln Planning Board endorses 13-item Route 2A pushback and authorizes joint letter to MassDOT. The board voted unanimously June 22 to support Planning Director Paula Vaughn's list of asks — including a consistent four-foot shoulder using "box widening," pedestrian flashing beacons at all crosswalks, a new crosswalk at Brooks Road and heavy-timber guardrails — and authorized member Margaret Olson to sign a letter joined by the Roadside Traffic Committee, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee and the Select Board. "We are trying to change the character of the road from a truck through-way to a road that looks more like it should be going through a national park," Vaughn said, citing the 2025 Minute Man National Historical Park anniversary. The board also approved a 34-by-28-foot addition at 160 Old County Road for the Grubers and heard from Co-Chair Gary Taylor that SLPAC has a signed Wright-Pierce contract to assess the mall septic system at roughly $42,000, with TCB covering half.
