Selectmen sign Bedford MOU enrolling Hanscom retiree's child for $17,000

LINCOLN — June 1, 2015 — Lincoln signs one-year, one-student tuition deal with Bedford for Hanscom retiree's child. The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Monday to authorize Chair Noah Eckhouse to sign a memorandum of understanding reimbursing Bedford "slightly over $17,000" for the high-school education of a Hanscom-based military retiree's child, a category covered by neither Lincoln's federal K-8 contract nor Bedford's active-duty-dependent practice. Town Administrator Tim Higgins said negotiations began in summer 2014 and focused on "doing the right thing by this student." The MOU includes hold-harmless language preserving both towns' legal positions, and the towns agreed to jointly petition the Commonwealth for any future special education costs. The board separately nominated Carol Casper, Vin Cannistraro and Paula Cobb as at-large members of the Campus Master Plan Committee and adopted a revised Bemis Hall rental schedule.
