Lincoln Public Schools Superintendent Parry Graham used his Oct. 30 bi-weekly message to families to recap principals' School Improvement Plans and to flag an upcoming bridge closure that could affect school commutes.

Principals from each school presented their School Improvement Plans, known as SIPs, at last week's School Committee meeting. The plans outline larger goals each school is pursuing. Common themes across the district include strengthening Tier I classroom instruction, creating more opportunities for faculty to learn from one another, and using survey feedback from students, staff and families to improve engagement and belonging.

Individual schools also set specific goals: the preschool is focusing on supporting English Learners; Hanscom School aims to increase opportunities for special educators to "push into" general education classrooms rather than pulling students out; Lincoln K-4 is working on improving communication between teachers and caregivers; and Lincoln 5-8 is implementing new data review protocols in English language arts. Graham said School Committee members were impressed with the work principals presented and encouraged families to read the plans, which are linked from the district's post.

Graham also alerted families that the Sherman Bridge in Wayland will close starting Nov. 9 and is expected to remain closed through the end of January. The closure will affect traffic to and from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, and the resulting rerouting is also likely to affect morning and evening commutes in the wider area. A linked website provides a map of the rerouting plan and will be updated as the project progresses.
