LINCOLN — The Lincoln School Committee approved a $603,625 transfer from the Hanscom Reserve Fund to the town of Lincoln to cover a pension liability gap from fiscal years 2021 through 2023, based on a Collins Center Working Group analysis. Members also adopted, on second reading, a revised special education tuition prepayment policy letting administrators prepay tuition for known placements without a case-by-case vote. Finance staff reported Hanscom's budget drew just $323,000 from reserves this year, far below an originally feared $2.49 million deficit and less than the up to $738,000 projected.
The committee heard an extensive update on its K-8 math curriculum pilot, with STEM Coordinator Steph saying Amplify Desmos Math and Imagine Learning IM emerged as "very, very clear" top choices after a yearlong review involving 33 teachers and 14 special educators. A policy on Hanscom Reserve Fund wind-down costs received only a first reading after member Susan Taylor questioned its documentation. All roll-call votes passed 7-0.
