Hanscom Advisory Commission Votes to Demand Massport Install ICE Detainee Webcams

Hanscom Field Advisory Commission · Meeting of August 11, 2026

LINCOLN — Hanscom Field Advisory Commission unanimously demands Massport install webcams and allow unrestricted public observation of ICE detainee flights. The five-member commission voted 5-0 on each of two motions at its August 11 special meeting, directing Chair Margaret Coppe and Member Barbara Katzenberg to transmit the requests to Massport along with a formal letter to elected officials including the governor. The first motion asks Massport to treat all airfield observers in public areas equally, without restrictions on duration or use of recording equipment, and to communicate that standard to the Massachusetts State Police unit at Hanscom.

The second requests "publicly viewable web cameras to observe and record all transfer of detainees and the vehicles involved, similar to the system used at King County International Airport, Boeing Field." Member Christopher Eliot argued that Massport's security rationale for discouraging observers "doesn't apply at any other airport" and that a failure to act risks directing public and protest pressure against Massport itself. The commission expects a Massport response in advance of its September 15 meeting.
