Lincoln School Committee approves $793,502 warrant, narrows 2014-15 calendar options

LINCOLN — December 5, 2013 — Lincoln School Committee approves $793,502 warrant and narrows 2014-15 calendar to four options. The committee unanimously approved the warrant — $698,979.11 payroll and $94,522.98 accounts payable — with member Al Schmertzler absent for a Capital Planning conflict. Superintendent Becky McFall presented five draft 2014-15 calendars and the committee dropped one (a half-day Good Friday option) and locked Dec. 24 as a full day off across all versions. Business manager Buck Creel told members his review of October 1 reports showed the FY08 kindergarten cohort had been over the preferred class size only once before the 2010 decision to add a fourth third-grade section — not twice as administrators had told the committee — and that an added section next year would cost roughly $70,000. Creel said the CASE special education collaborative's new billing methodology, mandated by DESE, could add Hanscom assessments "in the hundreds of thousands of dollars."
