Lincoln School Committee commits space for LEAP during community center construction

LINCOLN -- March 7, 2024, Lincoln School Committee commits space for LEAP through FY27 if community center passes. The committee voted unanimously Thursday to provide Lincoln School space for the LEAP after-school program during fiscal years 2026 and 2027 should voters approve a new community center at the upcoming Town Meeting, with logistics planning required by Nov. 1. Superintendent Parry Burnap compared the arrangement to hosting family at Thanksgiving, "we will make it work" but "not a viable long-term solution." The committee also unanimously approved Angela Wang, current payroll director for Springfield Public Schools, as Administrator for Business and Finance on a three-year contract. Most of the three-hour meeting was consumed by literacy and math data presentations, with three residents pressing for more detailed disclosure. Assistant Superintendent Torrance acknowledged the district lacks comprehensive literacy and math intervention in grades 6-8: "That's not good." Hanscom is running a roughly $200,000 special-education deficit projected to close by year-end.
