Lincoln School Committee cuts two Hanscom teachers as enrollment drops

LINCOLN — September 8, 2022 — Lincoln cuts two Hanscom teachers and three class sections after sharp enrollment drop. Superintendent Becky McFall told the School Committee on Thursday that Hanscom Primary kindergarten enrollment fell from 56 to 35 students, with additional declines in grades two and four, reducing the school from 15 to 12 sections. One teacher transferred to a Lincoln campus wellness role and another filled a leave vacancy in lieu of a long-term sub; a third kindergarten teacher with special education certification will float across the grade. Base housing is running at 96 percent occupancy, down from a typical 98 percent, and homeschooling has fallen from a pandemic peak of 55 to 39. "With Hanscom, we never know who's going to show up until August," McFall said. The committee also unanimously extended the current school bus contract for its fifth and final year and set an Oct. 28 ribbon-cutting for the renovated Lincoln School.
