School Committee Approves Hanscom 8th Grade Trip to Gettysburg, Washington

LINCOLN — October 22, 2015 — Lincoln School Committee unanimously approves a four-day Hanscom eighth grade field trip to Gettysburg and Washington, D.C. Grade 8 Social Studies teacher Jay Pellage presented the proposal for the June 6-9 trip, recommending vendor Education First on the strength of competitive pricing and a written guarantee to fully refund any student displaced by a military relocation order — a safeguard the competing vendors would not offer. Per-student cost is projected between $800 and $900, with a $1,500 Civil War Trust Field Trip Fund grant already secured and additional VFW and cultural council applications pending. The committee also approved payroll and accounts payable warrants totaling $972,088.99, completed a second reading and approval of the district's concussion policy JJIF, and received the district's first-ever consolidated five-assessment key yearly measures report — which showed Hanscom fourth grade math scores running as much as 28 percentage points below the state average in combined proficient and advanced ratings.
