School Committee unanimously backs Wang property purchase for new athletic field

LINCOLN — February 2, 2017 — Lincoln School Committee unanimously backs Wang property purchase as $2 million path to a new athletic field. Parks and Recreation Director Dan Pereira told the committee a fall Stantec Engineering study found Ballfield Road fields in "dangerous condition" — so compacted that two aeration machines broke — and that 20 years of $28,000-a-year maintenance has not reversed the decline. Community Preservation Committee Chair Chris Fasiano laid out financing: $800,000 for 12 acres of land, $1 million for construction, $200,000 for irrigation, with Lincoln Youth Soccer raising $200,000 and CPC applying $500,000 of current-year funds plus bonding the rest at roughly 3.5 percent over 15 years. "There will be no additional taxes needed," Fasiano said. The committee also voted that Superintendent Becky McFall's mid-cycle performance warrants salary negotiations, and approved warrant article language for what will become Articles 33 and 34 on the school building project.
