Lincoln School Committee approves 22 new METCO seats and 27 staff-child enrollments

LINCOLN — April 25, 2024 — Lincoln School Committee clears 22 METCO seats, 27 staff-child enrollments and reelects Madrick. The committee unanimously approved Superintendent Parry Graham's recommendation to fill up to 22 open METCO seats — including nine kindergartners — keeping the district at its 91-student policy ceiling under JFABC, with 84 Boston resident students currently enrolled. Members also approved 27 staff-child enrollment requests (19 returning, 8 new) and the annual four-day summer work-week shift for 12-month staff. Business Administrator Mary Ellen Norman reported Hanscom's projected deficit has fallen from over $200,000 at Q2 to about $69,000 at Q3, and will be eliminated by charging part of 34 out-of-district special-education placements to a state grant; Lincoln is projected to finish with a surplus exceeding the half-percent target Norman called "well managed." Member Susan Taylor moved to reelect Matina Madrick as chair; Madrick named METCO Representative Kim Mack as vice chair, saying she "honestly could not do it without her." New Hanscom Representative Laurel Wironen was seated.
