Lincoln School Committee approves FY14 budget and expanded capital request

LINCOLN — January 24, 2013 — Lincoln School Committee approves FY14 budget, boosts security capital line. The committee voted unanimously Jan. 24 to accept the FY14 budget, including an amended Hanscom-side allocation request of $11,429,560, and approved an amended capital submission that raises the Lincoln School security line from $25,000 to $40,000 and adds a $400,000 placeholder warrant for architectural and engineering studies. Administrator for Business and Finance Buck Creel said the school lunch revolving fund opened the year at $67,811.51 and projects a $2,170 operating loss after roughly $3,000 in emergency freezer repairs. Food Services Director Kathleen Higgins said Lincoln is among about 20 Massachusetts districts qualifying for an extra six cents per meal as an early adopter of new federal standards, and that direct certification identified close to 50 students automatically eligible for free lunch. "Let's quit while we're ahead," member Al Schmertzler said before moving the budget vote.
