Lincoln School Committee submits six capital projects after building vote failure

LINCOLN — January 10, 2013 — Lincoln School Committee submits six capital projects after failed building vote. With the Lincoln School project rejected at special town meeting, the committee voted unanimously Thursday to send the town Capital Planning Committee a package including a $75,000 classroom rehab request, replacement of the obsolete 1994 fire alarm panel, a roughly $316,000 replacement of the DOS-based energy management system, a new burner for flood-damaged Smith boiler number one, a $400,000 placeholder for next-step architectural design, and approximately $25,000 for security upgrades. Administrator for Business and Finance Buckner Creel said the systems "are in failure right now." Member Al Schmertzler, who also sits on Capcom, said he would ask Chair Andy Beard about an out-of-cycle emergency approval for the boiler, warning, "We have the possibility of having a total failure." The committee separately approved warrants totaling $1,739,315.76 and a three-year Dougherty's bus contract with a 9.8 percent cumulative increase.
