Lincoln School Committee unanimously backs L-shaped school concept to MSBA

LINCOLN — February 7, 2013 — Lincoln School Committee endorses L-shaped concept and absorbs Hanscom Middle delay. Members voted unanimously at a joint session with the School Building Committee to ask the Massachusetts School Building Authority to keep working with the town on an L-shaped scheme developed at January 27 and January 31 charrettes, with a placeholder design-funds warrant article on the spring Town Meeting agenda. Facilities Director Buck reported that Hanscom Middle School construction bids came in over the federally programmed amount, pushing contract award to May 30 and the student move into temporary classrooms from summer to February 2014; value-engineering cuts spared classrooms but trimmed a rooftop garden, kitchen equipment and finishes. The committee approved a $770,613.11 warrant conditional on chair confirmation with absent member Al, reappointed Dr. Stephen Jenkins as school physician, and reviewed a Finance Committee annual-report draft concluding that withdrawing from METCO would actually raise per-pupil expenditure by roughly $1,000.
