Lincoln School Committee to refile MSBA Statement of Interest by April 10

LINCOLN — February 28, 2013 — Lincoln School Committee restarts MSBA pipeline as state deems redesign a new project. Superintendent Becky McFall reported Thursday that the Massachusetts School Building Authority classified the district's "L-shaped" Lincoln School configuration as a different project from the one voters rejected, citing changed room sizes, adjacencies and a new construction-to-renovation ratio, and requiring a fresh Statement of Interest by April 10. Administrator for Business and Finance Buck Creel noted that only Granby has previously been readmitted after a failed vote, while Hopkinton and Carver are refiling alongside Lincoln among 280 expected statewide submissions. The committee also voted unanimously to withdraw from state school choice for 2013-2014, approved a $36,000 reserve fund transfer to replace the Lincoln School fire alarm panel after a week of false alarms, declared Pod C surplus space for an after-school child care RFP, and waived a 100 percent performance bond for transportation vendor Doherty's — Member Jennifer Glass noting "101 years" of service. McFall said town counsel advised the bond would likely have triggered "a 2 percent" cost adjustment with no added protection.
