Lincoln School Committee approves new MSBA statement of interest in 4-1 vote

LINCOLN — March 21, 2013 — Lincoln School Committee approves new MSBA statement of interest in 4-1 vote. The committee authorized Superintendent Becky McFall to submit a new Statement of Interest to the Massachusetts School Building Authority by the April 10 deadline, dissolved the existing School Building Committee, and withdrew the 2009 SOI as MSBA required. A $17,700 warrant article — reduced from a $400,000 placeholder — will go before town meeting Saturday to fund evaluation of prior feasibility work if Lincoln is readmitted to the capital pipeline. Member Al Schmerzler dissented, saying he wants "every chance" at MSBA funding but is "still not sure it's the right thing to do right now." Administrator for Student Services Stephanie Powers reported the state Coordinated Program Review produced just one preliminary finding, on outdated gender-identity language, with possible commendations in professional development and least restrictive environment. The committee approved $663,042.84 in payroll and $157,370.43 in accounts payable warrants.
