Lincoln School Committee approves K-8 improvement plans, advances roughly $700,000 capital placeholder

LINCOLN — October 10, 2013 — Lincoln School Committee approves school improvement plans and advances roughly $700,000 placeholder for school project. At the Oct. 10 meeting, Administrator for Business and Finance Buck Creel presented a prioritized capital list that initially set the feasibility-study placeholder at $400,000; members Tim Christenfeld and Jennifer Glass pushed to raise it to $650,000 or $700,000 and to make the language flexible enough to fund either an MSBA-driven feasibility study or, if Lincoln is not invited back by January, immediate work including a $20,000 flat-roof study and $50,000 to replace the Brooks main switchgear and sub-panels. Superintendent Becky McFaul detailed the district's two-measures-per-teacher pilot of District Determined Measures, with MCAS required in grades four through eight, Kathy Richardson math assessments piloted in K-4, and DECA continuing at the preschool. Principals Steve McKenna and Sharon Hobbs reported 47 students paired with 48 staff mentors in a new K-8 program. The committee unanimously approved $848,668.01 in warrants.
