Lincoln School Committee approves Metco, faculty enrollment for 2014-15

LINCOLN — April 3, 2014 — Lincoln School Committee approves Metco and faculty enrollment as fifth-grade parents push for a fourth section. The committee voted unanimously April 3 to authorize up to 15 new Metco students toward its 91-seat grant maximum — six in kindergarten outright plus provisional seats pending summer enrollment — and approved all current employee children plus 17 preschool requests. Incoming fifth grade drew the most pushback: 68 students across three sections produces an average of 22.67, above the recommended 22. Superintendent Becky McFaul said adding a fourth section would cost roughly $100,000 and likely fail Finance Committee support. "We'd love to have a Lincoln where we have 17 kids," said parent Jeff Bennett, urging the district to fund the section anyway. The committee also awarded a $39,376.56 Hanscom move contract to Wakefield Moving and Storage and approved warrants totaling $1,047,145.57.
