Lincoln schools select EL Education for K-8 literacy curriculum

LINCOLN — June 5, 2025 — Lincoln picks EL Education for new K-8 literacy curriculum after seven-week pilot. Assistant Superintendent Torrance and review co-lead Dr. Karen Saxon told the School Committee on Thursday that 22 teachers across Lincoln and Hanscom piloted EL Education, Fishtank ELA and Amplify before the team converged on EL, with materials priced at $87,500 per campus and state grants potentially covering up to 50 percent. "There is no perfect curriculum, and curriculum doesn't improve achievement by itself," Saxon said. The committee separately voted unanimously to support Doherty's Garage's application to the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center for up to $2.5 million to electrify four to six school buses, accepted a $1,000 Mitchell Family Charitable Trust scholarship gift and a $500 Boston Post Society of American Military Engineers sponsorship for Hanscom, and previewed a June 11 vote on up to $200,000 in special-education tuition prepayment from any fiscal 2025 surplus.
